1. We must accept responsibility for our freedom and happiness since we can be hurt by nothing but our own thoughts.
2. Choose love instead of fear.
3. Choosing love offers me freedom from fear. Most of my life I responded automatically to what other people said or did. Now I recognize that my responses can be determined only by the decisions I make.
4. The moment we want something from another person, we give that person the power to decide whether or not we will be happy. We give them the power to hurt us.
5. Our ego fosters in us the illusions that we are limited in the present by what happened in the past and will likely recur in the future.
6. Remind yourself that when you are fearful of the past and worried about the future, you are choosing not to be at peace.
7. All healing is release from the past.
8. We must recognize that the past is over and can no longer affect us. We can live in the present, and in the presence of love, only by releasing the past through forgiveness.
9. Remember that our parents did the best they could for us at the time, based on the circumstances of their own life experiences.
